The lyrics for the song below entitled 'Back to God' seem eerily prophetic today. (Listen below.) Performed at the CMA's back in 2017, it seems as though we can all find ourselves living out one or more of the verses in our current lives.  As I listened to this song I found it a breath of fresh air to hear popular artists in the secular realm (for the most part) professing the need for us to look to God for the solutions to the problems of this world.  But in listening, I was still reminded that the real hope for this world is, and will always be found when the people of God, don't just read the Word,
but we begin to listen, really listen 
to what God is telling us.
Friend, know this today;
You will be safe from the storm that is brewing around you, and the storms of your wellness journey, not just when you give them to God, but when you listen to what He is trying to teach you through them!
Remember when you first started your journey to wellness?  It was a season of constantly praising God.  You were overjoyed to have found the missing link.  He was helping you, and you were finding wild success.  But then the days came when you no longer wanted to share your journey with God. You wanted to hide certain foods, and "do your own thing." You wanted God to turn away and not look, yet you still wanted to experience the same results.  
Some where along the way, we forgot that God never told us it would be easy, just that He would be there to walk alongside us, and fight our battles, if we would invite Him in and follow His will.  He wanted to be a part of our journey, but we began to shut Him out.  And then, the weight loss became hard again.  
Think about the last few days, and weeks.  

• Are you inviting God in, or "going it alone"? 
•  Do you hear yourself crying, but not "crying out to God?"  
• Do you find yourself praying, but not "praying for His will in your life?"  

If this sounds like you, I want to encourage you to start fresh today.  His mercies are new for you, and He longs to go on this journey with you.  Today, when you listen to God you can be assured that you will be safe, and secure.  Living without fear, and finding success in your wellness journey once and for all.  Yes, give it back to God, but listen to His instructions when you do!

Dear God,
"Safe and secure, living without fear."  That is what your Word says I will experience when I listen to you.  Today God, I seek your face above all else.  I long to listen and hear you speak to me, providing hope and direction for my weight loss journey, and my life.  I thank you God that your Word continues to be a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.  Help me today to hide your Word in my heart, so that I will not sin in my weight loss journey.

E4M DAILY STRATEGY
Are You Listening To What God Is Telling You?
Your daily strategy today is a simple one.  But for many it may not be easy.  Yet, if we are to find lasting success, we must begin to put the Word of God to practice.  Today, spend dedicated time actively listening to God.  Get alone with Him for at least 15 minutes, and ask Him to speak to you about your weight loss journey.  Then, write down what you feel He is saying.  Do not worry if you don't "hear" Him the first time, just keep trying.  Remember this, we are in the habit of talking to God way more than we listen to Him.  So, it may take a few tries for us to hear Him speak.  But know this; God knows your heart, and He desires to give you the desires of your heart.  So if your desire is to hear Him speak to you, trust me He will honor that!

"Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirits God had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem."
Ezra 1:5

It's truly amazing what happens when God moves.  Lives are changed, strongholds are broken, and ancient temples are rebuilt when the Spirit of God falls on His people.  The question is often, "How can I experience the Spirit of God like that?"  Friend, you received it when you accepted Christ as your Savior.  The key is activating, and moving with it.  In this Old Testament recording, we find that the Spirit of God moved on the heads of the households, priests, and Levites to go and rebuild the temple of the Lord.  So they physically got up, and went to build up the house for the Lord.  You and I must do the same.  God has called us to take care of ourselves.  He is moving our spirits, and nudging us to get serious about our health and wellness.  We must move with Him.  We can no longer put it off until, "next week, or next month."  We have been called to start now!  But let me  encourage you today.  God knows as well as you do, that you cannot do this alone.  And He is there, up ahead today to aid you in avoiding, and saying no to temptations you could never avoid on your own.  Giving you energy, and motivation you never had before.  Activate it!  He is moving, and nothing can stop the power, "When God Moves!"

Pray this prayer with me:
Dear God,
Today I look forward to experiencing Your power in my wellness journey.  I'm ready to access and activate the power You have given me.  Ready to move when You say move!  I'm excited to face today, knowing and grateful that You are up ahead removing anything that would hinder my journey.  I'm moving ahead with You today, Lord!

When God Moves
God is moving in your wellness journey today.  The key to finding success is to move with Him.  So how can you move with God today in wellness?

1.  Don't put it off:  You were led here to start here; and now.  Don't put off the work any longer; start now.

2.  Remember, the little things mean alot:  The little things you eat and choose not to eat are what add up in this journey.  Work to stat away from the little nibble, and tastes today!

3.  Remember you are not doing this alone:  God Word says, Stand still and watch the Lord go to battle for you.  He does that when you cannot fight on your own.  You do what you can and leave the rest up to Him.

4.  Thank Him now:  Put your money where your mouth is so to speak.  You started this journey because you wanted desperately to believe that God would help you lose the weight and live healthy this time.  If you still believe it, thank Him for the success you are going to experience, "when He moves!"

When God moves, temples are rebuilt!

On a health & wellness jorney, we are often required to "believe it, before we see it."  We must choose the healthier options, and smaller portion sizes (while at times, both our body and mind fight against us.) Yet, we believe that when the time comes for us to step on the scale, it will reflect all our hard work.  We must be confident that our plans for losing weight  and living healthier will work.  Praise God for confirmation in scripture!  The Bible says, our confidence will have great reward.  That reward as it relates to health and wellness confirms the scale will continue to move in the direction we want it to. (As long as we remain confident.)  Hang onto that today.  Reignite that fire deep down inside of you that was burning so brightly the day you started your journey.  Remember that?  You were "confident" that this was it.  You were losing this weight for the last time, and nothing and no one was going to stand in your way.  Dig deep today, and find that confidence again,  because God is promising a great reward if you do!

Dear God,
I am finding my confidence again.  And I am so grateful that You remind me in Your Word that I will experience a great reward when I do.  I remember how excited I was to start this the last time.  I fully believed this was going to be the last weight loss program I ever joined.  Today my confidence in that statement of belief has returned.  You did not bring me here to leave me here.  I am confident in that!  Thank You for loving me enough to remind and encourage me everyday, all day.  I am keeping my confidence in You!

E4M DAILY STRATEGY
Finding Your Confidence
Confidence is defined as
"The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust."

It's easy to see according to this definition who we can firmly trust and rely on; God.  But not always easy to apply this confidence in weight loss.  Beginning today, I want to encourage you to find your confidence to succeed in this weight loss journey in God.  Embrace what David once said in the book of Psalms, "Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth."  Psalm 121:1  
Allow the following four verses to solidify this truth!

1.  "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."  Hebrews 10:35, 36
(God will make good on His promise to lead you to success.  
Will you cooperate with His plan today?)

2. "Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident." Psalm 27:3
(Yes, you will face battles, but your confidence in God to bring you out will lead you to success!)

3. "So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6
(Do not fear, no temptation can overtake you when you find your confidence in God!)

4. "And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6
(He will finish what He started friend!  In ALL areas of your life!  
Find your confidence in Him today!)

Remember, nothing and no one can touch you or your success when you find your confidence in God!

"I will instruct you and teach you; I will guide you with My eye." Psalm 32:8

My morning routine is the same every day. Out of bed, brush my teeth, wash and put a little moisturizer on my face and head downstairs to grab the freshly poured cup of coffee that Tim has left me on the kitchen counter.  
(Most mornings I get down there while it’s still fresh and hot but some days I need to reheat it since I lingered in bed just a few minutes too long.) 
As I take the first few sips, I set the stage for my prayer time; turning on the little lamps in the living room and tuning the TV to background worship and scripture on the screen to remind me of God's love and faithfulness.

Lately, my heart is been so set on trying to just spend time with God; sitting in His presence. I know reading the Word is getting into His presence. I know prayer is getting into His presence. But for some reason, I have a burden on my heart to intentionally sit and listen for His voice and His direction. I don't know about you, but this may be one of the hardest things I've ever tried to do! My mind doesn't work like this. The minute I try and do nothing, is the very minute my days flash before me; unending to do lists, calls, emails, errands. Doing nothing is nearly impossible for this mind of mine!

As I tuned the TV to my normal YouTube channel DappyTKeys, with piano worship in the background, the first scripture that popped up was a precious reminder of what the Lord wanted me to know today and what He promised to do if I would allow.

I will teach you the way you should go. I will guide you with My eye. 

I've read the scripture literally countless times over the course of my life. Yet this time it stopped me in my tracks.  How much of my life have I spent trying to teach myself.  Make sense of things myself.  Guide myself.
Why do we complicate God so much? 
His directives are simple. His beauty is matchless. His wisdom is unparalleled.
But more than anything, the simplicity of His Word is overwhelming.
I will teach you. It’s a promise.
I will lead you. There’s no gray area.

He will teach.  
He will lead.
He will guide.
 He will never leave.
He will never forsake.
His mercies are new.
Great is His faithfulness.

As you enter into this day, may you be truly blessed with an encounter like mine this morning.  One that stops you before you even get started with a precious reminder that you need not worry. God has overcome every obstacle you will ever face today and everyday.

Let’s pray,
Dear God, 
Thank you for Your Word. It is my lifeline in this world. It is the anchor for my soul. Forgive me for the times I do not trust fully what You say in Your Word. Help me today to embrace the truth I find in Your Word with every fiber of my being. I want it to penetrate my soul and become my truth. You are my everything and I am so thankful that when I seek You first everything else falls into place.

Ways I can experience the presence of God more deeply everyday.

1. Set aside five minutes each day just to sit in the presence of God. Truly try to listen for His voice. Begin your time with " Speak, Lord. I am here Lord and I am listening."

2.Meditate on today’s scripture for 5 to 10 minutes.
Embrace each truth found (God will instruct, teach, guide.)

3.What does it mean to you that God will instruct, teach and guid you?
What is he trying to teach you in this season?

4.How does knowing that God will guide you relieve stress and anxiety from your life. What will it take for you to fully trust His leading?

After last night’s livestream, I decided to do a little “heart check” on myself. If I am going to be so intentional about the Body of Christ growing in  the Fruit of the Spirit and improving their health and wellness I thought,
 “You really should practice what you preach.”
 
So I grabbed my workbook (download yours here Rooted & Well ) and got busy reading and completing the reflections under Week One.
And to be honest, I’ve got a lot of work to do.

The first question was “How do I demonstrate love for God on a daily basis?” 
Although I could easily share that I read the Word, pray and praise Him daily, my conscience got a hold of me, questioning;
“Yes, but how long are you really engaged, and not thinking about other things?
How long are you really sharing your love for God and not questioning or needing reinforcement about His love for you?”
This will get easier I thought. Keep going…
.
So the next question: “How do I demonstrate love for myself?” Uh oh
“Well, I criticize myself, frustrate myself, continually critique myself.  Is that love?”
Sure I try to eat healthy and move my body, but when I really think about loving someone, I think about saying things to them that build them up. Smiling everytime I see them. Yet, how often do I cringe and roll my eyes when I get a glimpse of myself in a mirror or “window” walking through the mall? Hmmm.
I might be in for some real work this month. Oh well, let’s move on.

The next question: “In what areas would I like to take better care of my HEART?” Pen to table. ‘Click. Click. Click.' Do I even really think about this?
 I’ve been ‘preaching’ health and wellness for years, but the heart? Specifically?
Then a scripture came to mind. (Turn the page if you’re looking at your workbook.)
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23
How am I taking care of my heart?
How am I guarding my heart?
I literally don’t even know. So I stop and think about my days. My thoughts.
I exercise.
I eat right.
But sometimes the heaviness in my heart is unbearable. But why?
Worries about loved ones. Cares of this world. Jealousy. Envy. Bitterness.
(I’m just being honest ☹️)
I really want 2026 to be the year that Health & Wellness Sticks.
So I’m ready to get real. I’m ready to tell the Lord,
“Search me O God and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts.” Psalm 139:23
Bottom line. If I am to grow and cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in my life, I’ve got to be ready to do more than just listen to a good message and pray. I’ve got to get to work. I need to learn to see myself the way Jesus sees me. And I need to realize that what I am eating, thinking, drinking will either be part of my problem or my solution.

So I am here to encourage you. Let 2026 be the year Health & Wellness Sticks. Let’s get our hands in the dirt, pull up the weeds and start planting something that will have a lasting impact for generations to come!

Friend, if any of these sound like you, can I tell you that the quickest way to overcome is simply to believe that God can change you?  Too often in this journey, we get hung up thinking we must change ourselves, when lasting change truly comes from the belief that God makes all things possible.  Today, fret not friend over the fact that you just don't have the motivation to drink water or journal.  Simply stop right now and cry out to God, asking Him to change you, believing that
Yes, it's possible!

Each and everyday I need to find the desire and motivation to take the steps I need to take to be successful on this journey.  Sometimes it becomes so difficult thinking I need to find these on my own.  Thank You for reminding me that true and lasting change simply results from belief!  I believe God that you will change me!

Yes!  It's Possible!
Jesus said, "IF" you can believe.  That's a big if for many of us.  Today, I encourage you to make every attempt to believe the following about your health & wellness.
1.  God's will is for me to find success.
 If it weren't, you wouldn't be here.  Believe that!
2.  It's not about my power.
It's about the power that lives in you through the Holy Spirit.  The Bible says the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to do God's will.  Believe that!
3.  I already have victory.
 Just your willingness to tune in to your journey and try again today, proves your victory and Satan's defeat. Believe that!
4.  It's not about me!  
This is a hard one, but the reality is that your health and wellness journey is about giving God glory for the miraculous way He has changed you.  It's not about you.  The sooner you realize and embrace this truth, the sooner you will find victory!

When You Go Out To Battle
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you,
who brought you up from the land of Egypt."
Deuteronomy 20:1

A health and wellness journey can feel like a real battlefield at times.  Fighting off temptations,  facing "enemies" like donuts, pizza, and cookies.  Sometimes, it can feel like a war zone for sure.  Not to mention, that at times it can be a lonely battlefield.  Those around us eating whatever they want, while we're over here munching on carrots and SkinnyPop popcorn.  Friend, let me remind you of one very important fact; you are never alone in this battle.  Each and every day you do face a real enemy that wants to distract and get you off track, but have no fear, God is with you!  Even in your journey to obedience and honoring God with your 'temple'.  
And when you call on His name, the Bible says, "You shall be saved!"  
So, "when you go out to battle" today, call upon God; ask Him to remove the temptations you're unable to conquer, and keep you protected from anything or anyone that threatens to hinder your progress, or speak 'lies' about the importance of caring for your body and God's desire and ability to help you through even the toughest battles. Take heart, He has overcome every enemy in this world!

Dear God,
This health & wellness journey can seem like a virtual battlefield at times.  I'm grateful to know that I don't fight alone.  God, at times I don't have the strength or desire to fight this battle or face my "enemies."  Thank You for being with me and removing all my fears.

2. Water:  We can't talk about it enough.  There is a reason Jesus referred to Himself as the living water.  We cannot survive and thrive without Him.  And we cannot thrive in a wellness journey without water either.  Take it with you wherever you go.
3. Ready to Move:  Be prepared to move your body and fight off laziness.  On this journey, always be ready with some good walking shoes and comfortable clothes.  
4. Community:  Don't forget your E4M family!  They are here to cheer you on!  Stay connected.  Stay accountable.  Remember, we are better together!

The Bible holds so many promises from the Lord, and not one of His promises has failed to come to pass.  Did you know that these promises are relevant and real for you weight loss journey too?
 Precious friend, as you continue in your journey day by day, may you always remember that the Lord has already paved the way for your success, but He never intended for you to "go this alone."
 He WILL be your strength and peace when you need Him.  Get excited about the fact that you don't have to be strong all the time, and always remember:
?When it gets to be too much, He will provide you peace.  
?When it gets to be too confusing, He will provide direction.  
?And when it gets to be too hard, He will be your strength.  
Be blessed, this journey is different now that He is at the center of it all, and He WILL see you through to success!

Dear God,
I am so grateful that I am not in this alone.  In the past I gave up when it got too hard.  Not this time, Lord!  And I have You to thank.  I am committed to obedience this time, and telling the world what my God has done!  Thank you God for loving me enough to be my strength, giving me peace and direction everyday!

In a world that constantly bombards us with temptations and distractions, how can we as Christians stand firm in our faith and break free from the sin patterns that hold us back?

The journey to spiritual freedom begins with recognizing the power we have been given through Christ.
As the Scripture reminds us,
"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). 
This promise is a reality that we can live out each day.
However, to fully embrace this freedom,
 we must be willing to confront and overthrow the worldly influences and sin patterns that have taken root in our lives.

Consider the analogy of a home renovation project. When we decide to renovate an old house, the first step is often to gut the interior, removing old furniture, tearing up carpets, and stripping away layers of outdated decor. This process can be messy and sometimes uncomfortable, but it's necessary to reveal the true bones of the structure and create space for something new and beautiful.

In the same way, our spiritual lives often require a thorough "gutting" of old habits, thought patterns, and behaviors that no longer serve us or align with God's will.
This process of uprooting and tearing down is not always easy, but it's essential if we want to build a strong foundation in Christ.

One of the most powerful tools we have in this renovation process is the Word of God. Scripture tells us that we have been given authority to "destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).
This means that we have the power, through Christ, to identify and overthrow anything that sets itself up against God's purpose for our lives.

But how do we practically apply this in our daily lives? It starts with being intentional about our spiritual growth and making a commitment to stay rooted in God's Word. Just as we wouldn't expect to build muscle without consistent exercise, we can't expect to grow spiritually without regular time in Scripture and prayer.

One practical step we can take is to "fast" from negative habits or mindsets that we've identified as stumbling blocks in our lives. This might mean taking a break from social media, consciously choosing not to complain, or avoiding situations that we know trigger unhealthy behaviors. By creating this space in our lives, we make room for God to work and for new, healthier patterns to emerge.

Another crucial aspect of breaking free from sin patterns is recognizing the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As believers, we have been given the incredible gift of God's Spirit dwelling within us. This is a powerful reality that can transform the way we live. The Holy Spirit is our helper, our comforter, and our counselor, always present to guide us and give us strength in moments of temptation or weakness.

When we truly grasp the reality of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives, it can revolutionize the way we approach challenges and opportunities to share our faith. We are never alone in our struggles or in our mission to spread the Gospel. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work within us, empowering us to live boldly for Him.

Ultimately, the goal of breaking free from sin patterns and worldly influences is not just about personal improvement, but about aligning ourselves more fully with God's purpose for our lives. When we live in the freedom that Christ has won for us, we become more effective witnesses for His kingdom and experience the joy and peace that come from walking closely with Him.

So let us take up the challenge to "uproot, tear down, destroy and overthrow" (Jeremiah 1:10) those things in our lives that hinder our relationship with God. Let us embrace the power of the Holy Spirit and the authority we have been given through Christ. And let us move forward with courage and boldness, knowing that as we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us (James 4:7).

The renovation of our spiritual lives is an ongoing process, but it's one that leads to true freedom, purpose, and an ever-deepening relationship with our Creator.
May we all commit to this journey of transformation, trusting that God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in us.

"Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning;  He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.”
Hosea 6:3

It doesn’t take long for our surroundings to manifest the effects of a drought.  The flowers in our yards can no longer produce the beautiful blooms they were created to produce.  The shrubs lose their ability to create solid root systems, and as for the grass, it becomes like straw; colorless and hard.  It’s painful to even walk on.  “Let it rain,” becomes a common thought and prayer when experiencing a season without rain.

For some of us, our lives are like the world around us during a drought.  We are no longer producing the beauty we were created for.  We too, are colorless, and hardened.  Maneuvering our day-to-day lives can feel even feel very painful.  

We are dried out.  
Used up.  
 Worn out, and run down.  

Some can even describe it as a feeling  of being dead on the inside.  So much has happened in our lives that we feel as though we no longer have the capacity to grow and thrive.
If you ever experience this feeling of being dead on the inside, know this:  
There is only One that can saturate that dry land and bring it back to life.  The Bible uses the analogy of spring rain to describe the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
“Oh that we might know the Lord.  Let us press on to know Him.  
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rain in early spring.”  
Hosea 6:3
There are times in our lives when only God can satisfy our needs, and fill our voids.  Times when only He can “rain down,” and breath life back into us.  It’s this kind of satisfaction that breathes life back into us and offers hope for the coming days.  
Are you missing something in your life?  
Do you need the rain?  
Do you feel used up and dried out?
Do you feel dead on the inside?
Friend, let me clarify something for you today.  The darkest and driest times in our lives are not the times to call on family, friends, drugs, alcohol, (or all the above.)  They will simply drain and dry us up even more.  During the darkest times of life, call out to God.  It is a privilege and a blessing to call out to Him.  Pray for His spirit to rain down and saturate your life.

The Bible says, “I pray that God the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace, because you trust in Him.  Then you will overflow with confident hope though the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:13

There is a power that awaits you when you allow the Holy Spirit to rain down in every part of your life. With that power comes a renewal, refreshing, and a restoration to live out your God-given purpose here on this earth.  
So join me today and let’s cry out to God saying,  
"Let it rain!"

Dear God,
Rain down Lord!  Rain down your love and mercy on me today.  Saturate my life with your presence.  In your presence is fullness of joy, and love everlasting.  Thank you Jesus that you impart your wisdom and direction when I call on your name.  Forever, I will call on the name, believing that when I do, I will be refreshed, restored, and renewed!
In the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ I pray,

Have you ever stopped to think about all the things that feed you throughout the day?  Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too?  To fill the emptiness in our stomachs, we head to the refrigerator, pantry, or nearest drive-thru.  
But what about the emptiness in our hearts?
 Relationships, jobs, books, social media and television all "feed us" and meet our emotional and/or spiritual needs in some way, just like the food we eat satisfies the emptiness in our stomachs.  
We may likely believe that we couldn't survive without the things we use to satisfy us emotionally.  But the truth is, we would.  It is life-altering and devastating to lose a job, or sever a relationship.  And far worse to suffer the death of a loved one.  
Yet physically, even though a part of us may have died, our bodies live on.  
The same is not true for food. Our bodies require the nutrition derived from food for mere survival on a daily basis.  Interestingly, there are several scriptures in the Bible that tell us about something other than food needed for survival.  
The Word says in three different places:
(Deuteronomy 8:3, Matthew 4:4, and Luke 4:4)
 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Taken literally, how many of us are starving to death?  We’re desperate for change, and seeking a new life, but dying in our current situation because we are malnourished.
Let this little nugget from the pantry of God’s Word encourage you today:
“Every good gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of tuning.”  
James 1:17  
God has great and perfect gifts waiting for all who want feed from His bountiful supply of goodness, mercy, and love.
A fresh feast awaits you.  And for most, you need not look any further than a nearby coffee table or bookshelf to find it.  
Quit starving yourself and drastically improve your health and wellness. Start nibbling on the fresh food found in the Word of God!

Let’s pray:
Dear God,
Today I praise You for Your Word.  I love to “taste and see”  how good Your Word is, and how it satisfies the hunger of my soul.  I will no longer starve myself, but begin immersing myself more in the precious promises found in my Bible.  
Help me to take time each day to feast on what You have to say to me!

"Cling tightly to the Lord.......The Lord your God fights for you."  
Joshua 23: 8, 10

One of my all time favorite Bible heroes has always been Joshua.  Outside of Joshua 24:15, the classic scripture visible upon entering many homes, (your truly included) that reads, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,”  I personally don't think that we hear about Joshua as much as other major men in the Bible like David, Noah, or Moses.  
But can I tell you, this mighty man of God experienced some blessings from the Lord that I would sure like to "taste and see."  Think about this. He was the leader who finally got to experience the fullness of God's promises and enter the Promised Land.  Not even Moses was permitted to go in.  He was permitted to see it from atop Mt. Nebo, but was refused entry because of his disobedience.  

I don't know about you, but I am ripe for a visit into a land that flows with milk and honey.

And then, there are the beautiful conversations Joshua experienced with God.  God imparts wisdom to Joshua that I think many of us need to be reminded of on a daily basis.  
Be strong.  
Be courageous.
BUT
 Do not worry!
I AM HERE
I'm not going anywhere.

In these days where abandonment is commonplace, and the devil works overtime to divide families, we all need the comfort and assurance that there is ONE who will never leave us, and never forsake us.
As the book of Joshua comes to a close, he reminds the people he was responsible for leading into the Promised Land to
"Cling tightly to the Lord....the Lord your God fights for you."

I want to encourage you to cling to the Lord as you begin this new month.  With all the unknowns, situations that you can't prepare for, struggles and trials.  Allow the wisdom Joshua imparted to the Israelites penetrate your spirit and lead you to the One who can lead you to the Promised Land of wellness and a closer walk with God.  
Pray this prayer with me as you embark on this new month:

Dear God,
God, I long to follow the wisdom of Joshua, realizing that when I find myself in obedience to you, I find myself entering into “promised lands” of peace and prosperity right here on earth.  Help me today to find rest and peace, by following in your complete and total will.
In the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ I pray,

E4M DAILY STRATEGY:  
Today's E4M Strategy is to follow the lead of Joshua to experience success in your wellness journey.
Joshua imparts wisdom to the Israelites that we can utilize in our daily walk.  Allow the following phrases to resonate and become your battle strategy today!

BE STRONG!  A wellness journey may not be easy, but if we follow our leader, God will fight for us, and give us what we need daily to enter the Promised Land of health and wellness.

BE COURAGEOUS! It takes courage to say, "No I don't want to eat that."  Remember, courage comes from the Lord.

THE LORD FIGHTS FOR YOU!  Never forget the importance of praying constantly for God's strength and aide on this journey.  
Remember, it is Him who is strong when you are weak!

"When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon,
'Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.'"
Luke 5:4

You may not realize it, but there is likely something you need to "push past" today in order to have a productive day, filled with peace and success.  
Today, I had to push past the alarm.  Desiring for the past several weeks to get up earlier than usual to go out for a run, I literally had to force myself out of bed this morning.  Moaning and groaning the whole time.  Yet, once I did, I was so grateful.  Being out so early to see the sun coming up, no cars around, no noise other than the birds chirping, and quality time with God.  It was truly more beautiful, and peaceful than I anticipated.  
And like I knew He would, He spoke to me in those quiet moments, imparting wisdom, and giving me guidance.  
I find it so ironic that I struggled for so long, when I knew the end result would be good.  I experienced a clarity I haven't had in a long time, and there was a peace ushered in that is extending throughout my day.  

All because I pushed past the alarm and got out of bed.

What do you need to push past today?  Is God calling you to push past the alarm too?  Is He beckoning you to wake up earlier than usual so that you can spend some quality time with Him?  In His Word?  Time that is not hurried or rushed in order for you to get to work, and into the hustle and bustle of your day?

Maybe you need to push past some thoughts and feelings that have taken up residence in your head for far too long.  Thoughts of anger, maybe even rage regarding circumstances in your life; rejections, fears, frustrations, and failures.  

Choosing not to push past the flesh, and the thoughts that are keeping you stuck, will also keep you from experiencing the blessings God has planned for you today.  
Fulfilling the lust of the flesh by staying in bed, when God is calling you to spend time with Him in prayer and His Word, and entertaining negative thoughts and fears, instead of pushing past them, is like inviting satan over to your house for coffee first thing in the morning, and asking him to stay for the day.  
It sounds crazy, but it's true.  You've allowed him in your head, and now he wants to "hang out" with you all day.  Scary thought, right?  But think about it.  If the thoughts you entertain aren't of God, there is only one other place they can originate; satan.
Know this:  satan will use your circumstances to go after you, and get in your head, causing you to "entertain" the negativity, and halt you from experiencing success.  The solution?
You must use your circumstances to go after God, and push past satan and his schemes!
(Remember what happened to the apostles when they pushed past their doubt and launched their net into the deep?)
Something is keeping you from success today.  What is it?  Thoughts, feelings, fears, an alarm?  Ask God to reveal it you right now, and get excited because you have the solution.  Just push past it!
Let's pray;

Dear God,
There are so many things I need to push past today to find success and peace.  Fears, and frustrations taunt me through the night and into the morning hours.  I am tired of entertaining the negative thoughts and feelings.  God I know you are telling me to do something different today.  I want to go deeper with you, launch out into the deep like the apostles did, and push past the things that are holding me back.  No more will I live hostage to these feelings God.  They are not of you.  Forgive me for allowing them to take up space in my head.  Space that you want to fill with your precious promises.  I move forward today, pushing past the shoreline, and launching out into the deep.  I can't wait to see what I catch!

Push Past It
Today's E4M Strategy is to push past foods that are hindering your success.  Take inventory of the snacks and foods in your home, and commit to doing the following:

1. Remove any snacks from your house make it too difficult for you to stay on track.
Ex: Snacks that aren't portion controlled, or certain snacks that you tend to overeat.
2. Be sure to have healthy snacks readily available in your home for quick access.
Ex: Mini carrots, fresh fruits, and cut up veggies (sweet peppers, cucumbers, celery.)
The best way to push past unhealthy behaviors and foods, is to have a good plan in place!

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
Genesis 3:1

Let's clarify something so that we can get started on the right foot today.  
The devil is sneaky.  
He is as sneaky today as he was in the days of Adam and Eve, and quite frankly he trips us up sometimes.  How couldn't he? He slithers around on the ground, right under under our feet camouflaged as dirt.  I really do feel as if I trip over him at times.
 And then there are the thoughts.  Do they start for you as early as they do me?  
(Before I even get out of bed, sometimes.)
 I can usually stifle him long enough to let God know I'm ready to face the day with Him by my side, but it never seems to fail that the minute my prayers end, there's satan; waiting.  Slithering around beneath my bed waiting to trip me up as I get out.  
This morning as I found myself making coffee, he appeared.
 Right there in my thoughts,
"You're not doing enough.  
You haven't immersed yourself in the Bible like you said you would.  
You haven't reached out to others like you said you would."  
"YOU ARE NOT ENOUGH!"

Can you hearing the haunting, taunting voice like I can?
But then I remembered something.  It's a nugget of wisdom from a very wise Christian friend.  She imparted it to me many years ago.  She said this,
"Whenever you hear the negative, and shameful voice of the devil, remember he is sneaky, but he's not smart!  
He can't come up with his own schemes so he just takes what the Lord is telling you and turns it upside down, or opposite."
What she meant was this.  Anything satan puts in your head about your path right now, the truth is really just the opposite.  So when satan says you are no good, what God wants you to know is that He made you perfect!  
When satan says you will not overcome, God wants you to know that you already have overcome. When satan says you can't lose the weight, God wants you to know that not only will you lose the weight, but you will be a better mother, father, friend, employee, leader, and ambassador for Him than you ever thought possible!
Friend, the bottom line is this; when satan is slithering around trying to trip you up, don't get caught in his coils, just step out and say,
"Devil you may be sneaky, but you sure aren't smart!"

Let's pray;
Dear God,
I love these revelations you continue to impart to me.  Sometimes the devil feels relentless in my life, but I am learning that it's because he knows I am about to overcome major battles that I will never have to face again.  Today, I have learned something so completely new about him, and I promise to use that knowledge and not forget it.  Whenever he tries to get in my head, I will remember that you are in my heart.  I will speak truth over my life, and thank you for revealing another wonderful revelation for me!

Today's E4M strategy will be fun.  Not only will you be learning the truths of what God wants you to know about your situations, you will be rebuking the devil and putting him in his place all day long.  Today your strategy is to pay attention to where satan tries to trip you up, and call him on it.  

For example, if you hear that voice in your head that says,
"You can't lose this weight."  
Remember, God is saying,
"The victory is won, my precious child.  You are just walking toward the finish line."

Or if he says,
"That relationship cannot be restored."
"Your loved one will not be healed."  
God is telling you,
"Let's keep talking about it, and while we do, I am behind the scenes healing and restoring."
☀️
You are about to put satan in his place once and for all with today's E4M strategy.  
And as you do, God is moving, transforming, and taking you to new levels in your weight loss journey, and in your walk with Him!

“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified."
Acts 20:32

How is your day so far?  For some, the answer might be, in the words of my sweet sister growing up, "This is NOT my day!"  It was a phrase she used often, and I can honestly still hear her saying it as if it were yesterday.  We laugh about it now, but in those moments, she was serious.  It was not her day.  Does this sound familiar?
Maybe for others, your day has started off pretty well.  Everyone in the house has gotten up on the right side of the bed, and they are upright and breathing, so to speak.  And for that, you are thankful!
Regardless of how our days start, the key to keep them moving in the right direction is an open line of communication with God.  
I can't tell you how many times my days seem to start of o.k., but then they begin to unravel in one way or another, and I'm left wondering what went wrong?  Yet, when I stop to think about it, there is always one common thread; no Bible, and no Jesus.  That's not to say I didn't pray a quick prayer before I got out of bed, and likely even even read a quick scripture and morning devotion as well.  
But the intimate morning conversation, afternoon talks, and dedicated time in His Word were not there.  
Even in the midst of schedules slowing down, we find ourselves filling our time with lots of other things, but not the Word of God.  Can I encourage you today?  Don't let your day unravel unnecessarily.  It really doesn't have to.  God has a remedy for all your ailments, an answer to all your prayers, and wisdom for all your questions, and concerns.  Take the time today to show Him how much you love Him, by getting alone with Him in His Word.  Then watch and see how He takes the time to love you back by using His Word to lead, guide, direct and provide you a peace you can only dream about!  Test it out!
 It really will give you everything you need!
Let's pray;

Dear God,
I want to start this day by praising your Holy Name.  God I am sorry for dismissing my time with you and filling it with other things.  Help me to be like Daniel, stopping three times throughout my day to pray and give thanks.  I get excited and refreshed to think about how you will renew my mind and the direction of my day if I will just stop to pray and spend time in your word.  God, I am blessed beyond measure to call you my father and King.  I will worship you today with my time and praise.

Everything You Need
There is no better strategy for success than one that includes the Word of God.  Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
 Freedom from overeating, freedom from oppression, and freedom from negative thinking.  Today's strategy is designed to aide you in all those areas.  
Utilizing the role model of Daniel, get alone with God 3xs throughout the day.  
The Bible says Daniel,
"Knelt down on his knees three times and prayed and gave thanks before God."
(This does not have to be long, just dedicated time.)
Each time, do what Daniel did and give thanks to God for how He is moving in your life,
and ask Him for what you need.
Be sure to have a notebook and pen close by, He is likely to shed some light on some situations for you!  
He loves to bless His people!

"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.  
Proverbs 4:23

Often in life, we find ourselves needing to adjust to situations and scenarios that maybe we didn't ask for, intend, or willingly get ourselves into.  Yet, in order to survive we must find a way to make the best of it.
The Bible's definition of making the best of it is; "keep your heart with all diligence."  It's the heart that gives life to the rest of the body.  And we must keep our heart guarded, and protected in order for our lives to be productive.  
But what does it mean to "guard our hearts?"  The Bible tells us that the peace of God will "guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."  Knowing that the book of Proverbs teaches wisdom and knowledge, we can surmise that guarding our hearts is to get the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus Christ as much as we can.  
We are living in times when our hearts need to be guarded more than ever.  The NIV puts it like this, "guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."  This means your weight loss journey, and eating habits are directly connected to the state of your heart, and the wisdom you are embracing from God each and everyday.  
Our perspective on this world and what is going on will change drastically when we understand that God has set aside time for us to grow in His Word, and guard our hearts so that we can make the most out of every single day!  
Friend, God promises to take care of His children, we must know that.  He only asks that we make the most of this life we have been given.  Will you do that with me today?  
In your weight loss journey?  
In your relationships with your family?  
In your walk with Him?  
Will you get into the Word of God today, and allow Him to show you how to Make the Best of It?  
Let's pray;

Dear God,
Today I want to make the best of this life you have given me.  I long to hide your word in my heart today more than ever, knowing that the wisdom that I place in it, directs all my actions, including my weight loss.  Thank you God that your word really is a light for my path.  I will use your light today, to direct everything I do, especially eating, and moving my body!

 "So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold,
I will spit you out of my mouth."
Revelations 3:16

The world is filled with lies and half truths.  Telling us that we can live for God half way, and still experience the fullness of His goodness, and blessings.  Yet the Bible clearly, and very visually tells us what God thinks of a lukewarm Christian.  He spits us out of His mouth.  Have you ever truly thought about the seriousness of this?  God hates it so much when we are lukewarm that He cannot stand the taste of us.  Friend, this is serious.  And it's this mentality that has made it's way into every other area of our lives.  We feel as though we should be able to do things half way and find complete success.  Investing in school, friends, spouses, children, giving them half of our time and attention and wondering why we aren't succeeding.  And then there is weight loss.  Day in and day out we become more and more frustrated.  "Why am I not losing weight?  Why am I gaining weight?  I joined the program, isn't that enough?  I don't eat fries, I stopped drinking coke.  Why is this not working?"  Can I be honest with you?  I have never met anyone who has given their weight loss journey 100% and not been totally successful.  However, I have met far too many that give up, resisting and rejecting the process.  Believing that half should equal whole.  Can I tell you that your weight loss journey mimics your walk with Christ in more ways than you could ever imagine.  Do it half way, and you will always get 1/2 the results.  Look for the easy way out, and you will ALWAYS find yourself back at the starting line (and quite possibly, heavier than ever.)
Don't let this message discourage you today.  Let it motivate and excite you like never before.  Reminding you that what God has promised to those who follow Him with everything that is in them, He has also promised to you.  That He will do "exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ask or think."  And that includes your weight loss journey!  Don't let the lies of this world hold you back any longer.  They haven't worked before, and they won't start today.  Embrace what is really needed for lasting success in weight loss;  WE NEED TRUTH!  Let's pray,

Dear God,
Father, I have embraced the lies of this world almost daily regarding my weight loss journey.  They still attempt to creep in at times, taunting me, telling me there should be an easier way.  I shouldn't have to write down everything I eat.  God, I desperately need you to lift that veil.  Teach me that I need truth in this journey.  I have lied to myself and you for far too long about why, what, and how much I eat.  I am tired of the lies.  I want, and I desperately need truth!  Thank You God for revealing this to me.  I will constantly pray to find your truth in my weight loss journey throughout this and every day.

Honesty is the best policy!  
It's true in life and it's so true in weight loss.  
Today's strategy is to commit right now to being 100% honest about EVERYTHING you are eating.  And the best way to do that is to journal!  Commit right now that for today, you will journal everything; every bite, lick, sip, taste; EVERYTHING!  And, share with an accountability partner or group.  Remember your motto for today:  WE NEED TRUTH!

Psalms 34:8

As I was eating my breakfast this morning, and coming to the end of my bowl of Cheerios, I began to think to myself, "This tastes so good, I think I want some more."  Immediately a voice (yes, I believe it was the Lord's) said, "I know you think you want more, but do your really need it?  Why do you want it?"  "Because it tastes so good!" I thought to myself.  Then it hit me.  This.  This right here is our problem.  We live on the "tastes and feels" of this world.  Tasting the temporary goodness of chocolate, or sugar and running back for more.  Feeling the temporary goodness in fleshly desires, and seeking more.  Rarely are we taking the time to truly taste and see how good the Lord is.  Sure we get glimpses of His goodness, but we don't go back for seconds or thirds, like we do for chocolate.  Friend, we have been given the blessed opportunity to step back, re-evaluate what we're "feeding" in our lives, and really learn that it is the Lord that tastes so good.  His goodness lasts forever, and comes with zero guilt.  Do you see that today?  He longs to fill your voids, and satisfy your sweet tooth.  "Blessed" the Word says, is the one who trusts in Him.  My earnest prayer today, is that each of us will run into the arms of Jesus when we feel the need to seek chocolate or ice cream just because "it tastes good."  That we will take the time to experience what it's like to fully trust Him with our weight loss.  Today, let's go on a journey together and "taste and see that the Lord is good!"  Let's pray:

Dear God,
Today I seek You to satisfy my sweet tooth.  God, if I am able to truly "taste and see"  how good You really are, I know I will be able to conquer the temptations of candy, chocolate, and ice cream.  I want to run into Your arms, forever experiencing how good You are.  I put my trust in You and You alone today.  Thank You for Your continued guidance in my weight loss.  I love You!

E4M DAILY STRATEGY:  
If we are to "taste and see" how good the Lord is, it's imperative that we seek Him throughout the day, over food. 
Today, your E4M Daily Strategy is to stop at least 4 times throughout your day, and spend 3-5 minutes intentionally seeking God. Below are some crucial moments in the day you may want to stop and seek the Lord!

1. Before you get out of bed.
2. Before you go to the pantry/vending machine/cafeteria for a snack.
3. Before you hit "send or share" on that email or social media post.
4. Before you stop to enjoy each meal!

 Make it a point 'before' each of the above to get alone with God and speak to Him.
Focusing on Him, to truly "taste and see" how good He really is; thanking, and praising Him for what He is doing in your weight loss journey.  

Spending dedicated time throughout the day with Him in this way, builds your trust in Him, and the Word says, "Blessed is the one who trusts in Him."

"So I answered them, and said to them, “The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build...."
Nehemiah 2:20
 
Nehemiah spoke the above words to the Israelites upon finding himself under a heavy burden for the state of his homeland, Jerusalem after they had been exiled from Babylon and allowed to return home. Their city was in ruins and the walls that protected the city, torn down. The gates burned, the Bible says. (Nehemiah 2:3)

The Israelites were left vulnerable to attacks from outside forces, and feeling weary and discouraged.  Their city needed restoration.  Friend, we are similar in so many ways.  We are in need of restoration in our minds, bodies and spirits. Just as God gave Nehemiah a great burden for the city of Jerusalem,  I believe God has called me to share a similar message.  Restore your physical body to protect the priceless gift it holds inside.  The Holy Spirit.  God is calling you to arise and build.  Build up the body He has given you.  Just like Nehemiah told the Israelites, I am here to tell you.  It is not you who will complete this task, but it is God himself.  "He will prosper us, therefore arise and build."

Arise today, and build a day that glorifies the Lord in what, when, and how you eat.  Pray before your day starts, asking God to speak to your heart throughout the day. Reminding you that the work you are doing in your weight loss journey is not in vain.  It will end in success.  Get excited about preparing meals, and snacks.  Focus on prayer and reading the Word during the times you begin to feel anxious. Instead of snacking.  Satan would love nothing more than for us to be discouraged when we cannot see how we can succeed in our weight loss journeys (and in our faith).  Show him that you are fully aware that you alone cannot complete this task, but through the Lord and by His power, you are about to ARISE AND BUILD!

Dear God,
I am excited to "arise and build" today.  I am moving into this day with the mentality that I am building up this temple of mine, as a holy, and beautiful place for You to live.  God I want people to know that I am doing this above all for YOU!  Help me to be in constant prayer regarding my eating, and motivated to stay on my plan.  I will seek You throughout the day, expecting to hear from You.  Thank You, that when I am  confused about many things in my life, I still have clarity regarding my weight loss, and my walk with You.

Well, one thing is for sure.  We don't lay a foundation for something, and not expect to finish the project.  When a foundation is poured, we are confident that we are about to build something on that foundation.  And we are excited about it!  Why?  Because we have planned, prayed, and saved for this project.  And now we have laid the foundation. Friends, if we will fully embrace how this relates to our weight loss journey, this one truth, can I tell you we will be unstoppable.  Please, don't misunderstand me.  Just because a foundation has been poured, does not mean there won't be setbacks or hurdles to jump. Even the best laid plans come up against set backs and hurdles that must be assessed, and fixed before completion.  But the laying of the foundation does mean the project has been planned out to the point that it will be finished.  Hear me loud and clear today.  No matter the chaos around you, the foundation of your weight loss journey was poured.  And it will be finished!  If you have hit a plateau in your weight loss, come up against a season in which you are struggling to get back on track, or the situations of this world threaten to take you off track, do not fall for it.  These are tricks of satan, like no other.  He is well aware of the mighty warrior for Christ you are becoming.  Fear not friend, today is a new day.  The sun is shining on your weight loss journey, and the "weather" is perfect for you to get back to work.  Get your tools ready.  (Your water bottle, your food journal, and your Bible.)  Start praising God!  You've got a "temple" to rebuild, and the foundation has been laid!

Let's pray.
Dear God,
I am ready to get back to work.  The foundation has been laid, and I am excited to rebuild this temple that You reside in.  Help me today, to utilize the tools, and resources You have placed at my disposal.  God, as I go about my day, I promise to look for You in this journey, knowing You go before me to fight all my battles.  I praise Your Holy name, and I still know and believe that this will be the very last weight loss journey I ever go on!

The Foundation Has Been Laid
Below are aspects of our foundation that we need to be sure are in tact to build this healthy body God has called us to build.

1. God goes before me to fight my battles:  He is up ahead. He knows where the temptations are.  Communicate with Him, so that He can help you avoid the pitfalls of your day!
2. My help comes from the Lord; not a meal plan:  We need to eat right, yes.  But we cannot rely on the food to get us through temptations.  Only God can do that!
3. This is my life, this is who I am:  That is my foundation.  No longer do I diet.  I live a healthy lifestyle.
4.  I will honor God with my body:  What goes in my body should always honor God.

Build your life on these foundational truths, and the Lord will surely bless your weight loss journey.  The foundation has been laid!

Have you "taken delivery" on God's promises to you regarding your weight loss?  It's so important on a weight loss journey to remember who is truly behind holding you back from success.  Although we must take responsibility for our behaviors regarding eating, all to often, we put way to much pressure on ourselves to change things only God can.  The reality is that Satan is prowling around like the Bible says, and coming to "steal, kill, and destroy."  Have you ever wondered why you feel so happy when you eat, but soon after, you're left with maddening guilt and shame?  And at times, the guilt and shame regarding your eating almost immobilizes you in feelings of frustration, and irritability.  To the point you decide, "I'm not going out.  I'm not going to church today.  I'm not going to be seen like this."  Friend, that is the scheme of the devil.  Looking for ways to keep you inactive, and not working in the Kingdom of God the way you were meant to.  You have a servant's heart.  God knows that.  But Satan knows it too.  I want to encourage you today.  Quit giving him space in your mind and give it back to the One who truly deserves it, and longs to speak truth into it.  God has come to deliver you from every behavior and thought that hinders your work for Him.  Allow Him to do that today.  Take the pressure off.  God has arrived to deliver peace and prepare you for the job He has called you to.

Dear God,
I have allowed satan to get in my head so often about weight loss.  He has stolen so much of my time, and energy.  I am so grateful today, to learn that You have come to deliver me from that.  I want to work for You God!  I want to show the world how You have changed me.  I live to serve You, and to give You all my time, and attention.  Thank You for delivering me from the schemes of satan.  I praise Your Holy Name!
