It's Not an Option

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31

The Bible uses the word wait in some form more than 100 times throughout the old and new testaments. (Depending on the translation it can be as much at 141).
In addition to this, when the word wait is used, it is most often implied that the Lord is giving a command, not a suggestion.  And we often see that the one waiting, is doing so in obedience to God.
This may not sound extremely profound, but for a person who likes to get things accomplished (now) I am becoming more and more aware that my impulsive nature may be more than just a character trait.
It may just be flat out disobedience to God.
This is both refreshing and frustrating at the same time.  Refreshing in the sense that when I read a verse like Psalm 37:9b I am reminded, "Those that wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth."
So that should motivate me, right?
But the waiting can be excruciating at times.  I'm not good at waiting.  I like to be doing.  And what does one do while waiting?
✨Research
✨Make endless to-do lists
✨Create Strategies
✨Think. Think. Think.
What's interesting, is that to the world, the above are all proactive and key strategies for success.
Research faster ways to lose weight.
They are definitely out there.
(Unhealthy and potentially harmful to your body, but they are there.)
Make a new to-do list today.
Stay busy.
It's the way of the world.
Create your "New year, New you strategy."
What you strategize, you can make happen.
And of course, think. think. think.
Consume yourself with what you want to come to pass, and what you need to do to make it happen.
Sounds like a game plan, right?
It has definitely been my game plan.  Yet the more I dive into the word of God, the more I realize, all of this is in complete contrast to what He tells me to do.

Psalm 37:7 says,
"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him."
Lamentations 3:25 reminds me,
"The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him."

Some days I write devotions with ease, knowing I have submitted to God in the area which He has called me to write about.
Today, I need your prayers as desperately as you may need mine.  I have always been the person that says,
"Go. Do. Become."
Waiting on the Lord in the way He calls us, is so very foreign to me.
Waiting on the Lord isn't sitting on the couch, hanging out until He rings the doorbell, I know that.
But, it's also NOT  researching your next steps or quickest route to healing or success.
This is my "the struggle is real" revelation.
Waiting on the Lord is dedicated time in His Word when you are spending dedicated time on the internet.   It's seeking what He would have you to know about your situation, over listening to podcasts and webinars.
Fasting, praying, and praising your way through.
God is working and God is moving, but we live in a here and now, don't wait kind of world.
God is calling us to rest in Him and wait on His timing.
But He's NOT telling us to give up.
He is simply saying, stop working so hard.  I am here to take over.

If this resonates with you, can I tell you that I have placed you in my prayer jar today.  I am asking God to give us patience and the ability to wait on His timing and praise Him through out tribulations.  We just need to remember one thing about waiting;
It's Not An Option!

Let's Pray
Dear God,
Waiting on You is sometimes the hardest thing I feel like I have to do in life.  So often I feel like I am the only one who can make something happen, and waiting feels so lazy.  Help me to see that waiting on You is the most active and profitable thing I can do for myself, my family and my life today.  I give You all the glory, honor and praise for my success.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen

E4M DAILY STRATEGY
It's Not An Option
Now that we know waiting on the Lord is not an option, be encouraged to see what God says about how to wait on His timing:

1.  "Do not say, 'I will repay evil.'  Wait for the Lord, and He will deliver you."  Proverbs 20:22
According to this verse, how should we handle evil that comes our way?  Unfair situations?

2.  “So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.” Hosea 12:6
According to this verse how long should we wait for the Lord?

3.  "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope." Psalm 130:5
According to this verse, along with waiting where do we place our hope?

4.  "But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me." Micah 7:7
