It's Good To Be Broken

"So rend your heart, and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and He relents from doing harm."
Joel 2:13

The definition of "rend" as it applies to this verse is, "To split or tear apart or in pieces by violence. Or to tear (the hair or clothing) as a sign of anger, grief, or despair."  In other words, in order for God to really change your heart about your lifestyle, and struggles, your heart needs to be broken first.  It sounds dramatic, and traumatic, but it's true.  Something that is not really broken, does not necessarily need fixing, and therefore left alone.  We don't want to be broken, for sure. But can I tell you that until your heart is broken over your relationship with food, God cannot move in your situation.  None of us want to admit that food is/has been a stronghold in our lives, or that we have allowed food to fill voids that only God can fill.  But if it were not true, we would not be in the situation we are in, fighting this battle to lose weight over and over again.  We must come to terms with this fact or God will never be able to lead us to lasting weight loss.  It's ok to be broken friend.  God is the Master Mender.  He is ready and waiting for you to return to Him. Take your brokenness, and allow Him to make you whole again.

Let's Pray.
Dear God,
I never thought I would want to be broken over my relationship with food.  I always wanted to hide it from You and everyone else.  Today, I come before You in praise and prayer.  Praising You for this revelation, and praying God that You would break my heart over the way I have treated my body and attempted to fill voids with food.  I know You can heal my broken heart, and I am grateful for my relationship with You.  I thank You today, because I truly know I am on the mend.
In the Mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen

E4M DAILY STRATEGY
It's Good To Be Broken
Allow today's devotion to really resonate in your spirit.  Get serious about your brokenness.  Because God can take broken things and make them whole again.  What are some areas of eating you want to confess your are broken in, and need fixing?  Possibly one or more of the following:

1. My secret eating:  I don't want to hide anymore.  I just want to confess to God that I am broken and allow Him to step in and heal me.

2.  The jokes I make about my eating:  I am embarrassed about my weight and eating, and fear others will make fun of me, so I make fun of myself first.  I am broken and tired of trying to keep up the jokes.  I want God to know I am broken in this area and step in to heal me.

3.  My lack of self-control:  I realize that I cannot do this alone, but sometimes I wonder if I'm even trying.  I want God to know that I am broken in this area and I need Him to step in and heal me.

4. The fact that I disengage when I really NEED my E4M family:  I desperately need the support and prayers of my family, but for some reason I run away when I get tired.  I truly am broken in this area and need God to step in and heal me.

?It's O.K. to be broken!  You can never be fixed until you are broken!?
