You're Scrolling in the Wrong Place

Don't forget the strategy at the bottom of this devotion!
We want to help you actively practice what you are reading today!
Let God move mightily in your life!

"That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:16, 17

Many of us cannot answer the question of "what will today bring?"  We don't know, and we cannot predict the future.  But there is something we can predict; how we will handle what comes our way.  How we respond to our circumstances in this day and age is truly just as important as what we are going through. The words fear and anxiety are all too common in our vocabulary, and the concern for the health and well-being of someone close to us is ever present on our minds.
Today is likely to bring news that agitates and even makes you uncomfortable; frustrates and attempts to cause you fear.  But when the word of the Lord is as accessible to you as the social media on your smart phone, how you respond can be forever changed.
Scroll through social media and you will be offended.
Scroll through the Bible and you will be uplifted.
Scroll through social media and you will be frightened.
Scroll through the Bible and you will find peace.
Scroll through social media and you will be frustrated.
Scroll through the Bible and you will be encouraged.

Today, I put this to the test.  Before opening emails that may or may not cause me anxiety.  Before scrolling through social media and possibly finding myself offended, or in a spirit of coveting what my neighbor has, I opened my Bible.
In doing so, I had an incredible revelation.  I can no more blame an acquaintance on Facebook for the offence I take to what they post, than I can to being bitten by a dog who is chained up in my neighbors fenced in yard, but bites me when I choose to go in and pet him.
I made the choice to "go there."  And, as a result, I was bitten.
Much like being bitten by the harsh remarks on social media, finding myself offended and frustrated.  Yet I chose to scroll.  And if I continue, the cycle continues until it spirals out of control.  And I am no longer simply frustrated.  I am divided, isolated, and on the verge of a panic attack resulting from the negativity and division I witness as I scroll.

If you are seeking peace, an end to the chaos, and an uplifting word, scroll through your Bible, not your phone.  2 Timothy 3:16, 17 teaches what the Bible really is.  It is your resource.  It teaches, equips, corrects and prepares you for what today will bring.
"That you will be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Friend, you may not know what today will bring.  But you can know this.  God's Word provides the resources for you to navigate the most fearful and painful circumstances.  His Word prepares your heart and mind to deal with the unknown.  And His Word provides a peace that truly surpasses what the human mind can comprehend.  Dig into His Word today.  Seek His peace.  Look for His love.  When you find yourself deep in the Word, you find Jesus.
Let that bring you hope today.

Let's Pray.
We encourage you to pray the prayer aloud.
Speak to God as if He were in the same room.

Dear God,
Help me to seek the peace that is found in Your Word today.  God I realize that this world is chaotic and full of division.  I seek the unity and love that is found in You.  I thank You for the revelation that what I am experiencing is a direct result of where I choose to "scroll."  Help me today to scroll only through Your Word finding You and learning what You would have me to know.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen
