Because Mama Said So
Don't forget the strategy at the bottom!
We want to help you actively practice what you are reading today!
Let God move mightily in your life!
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
Romans 8:32
I think many of us have holiday memories during Covid. Seasons of having to separate and miss out on being together for the holidays. Or worse, losing a loved one during the pandemic will forever leave an indelible hole for us this time of year.
I remember vividly a phone call with my sweet mama the year of Covid. We made the tough decision to celebrate Thanksgiving independently. My father lives with a chronic lung disease, and we simply could not risk of him getting sick from the virus. It was a sad call, but we tried to make the best of it. We made plans to continue cooking and baking, and making drive by stops to drop off our goodies at one another's homes. Thankfully she lives in the same city. How sad, though that we couldn't be with each other to celebrate. It was truly difficult to come to terms with the reality that I would not sit with my parents at a Thanksgiving Dinner for the first time in my entire life.
What was most interesting to me during our call, was my mother's adamance that we still continue to celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving.
"Too many people rush through it, and don't stop to be thankful these days." She said.
I wasn't thinking much of it during the call, but after we hung up, I kept hearing her voice. Repeatedly reminding me of the importance of being thankful for what you have in the moment. Because at any time it can be snatched away. As I began to ponder what she said more, I realized I have a responsibility to my own, immediate family. It will be up to me to ensure that we celebrate this holiday in a way that brings meaning and joy to the day. Even in the midst of chaos and unknowns, as Christians, we are required to always focus on the truth of God's word, in all circumstances.
And not get caught up in the ungodly, worldly views and fears that Satan wants us to focus on.
A precious reminder can be found in Romans 8:32. The writer points out that even in the midst of hard times, God is still for us. And if He loves us enough to allow His one and only son to die for our sins, won't He take care of us, and "freely give us all things?"
Verse 37 continues,
"Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
We can find gratitude today and everyday. And stopping to give thanks, reminding ourselves, and our loved ones of what God can and will do in our lives is pivotal to being the conquerors that God has called us to be.
I plan once again to listen to my sweet mama. And I hope you will too. My precious father is still with us, and I savour every moment with my parents. Savour every moment you have with your loved ones. Whether around the Thanksgiving table, or maybe just through a FaceTime or text. Regardless, give thanks.
Make a choice right now to create a Thanksgiving day filled with making memories and giving thanks.
"Because mama said so!"
Let's Pray.
Dear God,
Today I am thankful that You have shown me that I am an overcomer. More than a conqueror in You. God, help me to pass this on to my loved ones. I want them to always know that when Christ is for them, no one can stand against them. Thank You for helping me live out this revelation today and everyday!
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen
