Let It Be
"Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her."
Luke 1:38
Be honest. When you hear the words Let It Be, do you think Bible or Beatles? I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but the first thought that comes to my mind is Beatles. Yet, the beautiful scripture where Mary so willingly chooses obedience to the Lord is a much more beautiful way to remember the phrase.
"Behold the maidservant of the Lord!
Let it be to me according to your word."
The meaning behind the way Mary uses this phrase is so powerful.
She is essentially saying,
"Whatever you want, Lord. I have no idea what You are doing but, let it be.
In researching if the song was actually written referencing this scripture, I found that it was never meant to be associated with the Bible at all.
(At least Paul McCartney didn't think so. Maybe the Holy Spirit had different intentions.)
Paul's mother's name was Mary too. So he claims that she came to him in a dream during a time of stress in his life, and whispered to him, "Let it be."
Even so, I think his mother could have absolutely been referring to this scripture. Nonetheless, there is a message for you and me today.
How can we embrace the truth of this phrase and put it into action in our own lives, like Mary? Consider the following:
Realizing there are things we cannot change in the world around us today, can we just
"let it be?"
Realizing that sometimes we are going to disagree with the those closest to us, can we just
"let it be?"
Realising that God is still in control, no matter what. Can we just
"let it be?"
But most important. Can we look up to heaven today, and say "God I was created to serve You. I have no idea what my future holds, but I am your servant, so whatever you have in store for me,
"let it be."
Friend, I can just feel the anxiety lifting and peace wrapping around us like blankets when we choose to let it be today.
We later learn in the same chapter (vs 45) that Mary's cousin Elizabeth shares a message with her regarding her future;
"Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfilment of those things which were told her from the Lord."
Because Mary believed and obeyed, God fulfilled His promises in her life.
God will fulfill His promises to you, too. Be encouraged today to know and believe that the beginning of seeing the fruit of your labor all starts with one little phrase,
"Let It Be!"
Let's Pray.
Dear God,
Today is the day dear Lord. I want to learn from Mary. I long to willingly commit to Your plans for my life. Realizing that they might be more difficult than I imaginge (weight loss is hard). But that in the end, everything works out for my good, and Your glory. Help me God to implement "let it be" in my life. I know You are working everything out and that no plan of Yours can be stopped. Thank You for constantly teaching and reminding me of the truths found in Your word. And guiding and encouraging me to allow You to lead and guide my life.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen
E4M DAILY STRATEGY
Let It Be
Be encouraged by The Song of Mary today. This was her response to God's call on her life. Embrace her song as yours today. God has called you to do great things in your health and wellness journey.
And He promises to be your strength and show you mercy throughout!
"And Mary said,
'My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for God has looked with favor on the lowliness of the Almighty’s servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is God’s name.
God’s mercy is for those who fear God
from generation to generation.
God has shown strength with God’s arm;
God has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
God has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
God has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
God has helped servant Israel,
in remembrance of God’s mercy,
according to the promise God made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.'"
Luke 1:46-56
