What You See Is What You Eat
Don't forget the strategy at the bottom!
We want to help you actively practice what you are reading today!
"The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness."
Luke 11:34
What you see might be what you get, but it's also very likely that it's what you eat too.
You may not even realize it, but in your struggle to overcome strongholds related to emotional eating, taking inventory regarding what you are looking at everyday is key. If you are staring down a candy dish day in and day out at the office, chances are it will get to you eventually. If the ice cream that has been your nemesis for far too long, remains on your grocery list and in your freezer, eventually you will succumb. And if you allow your mouth to water when the food commercials come on during your favorite TV show, you are likely to find yourself in the drive thru in the coming days.
Everytime I open my Bible, I am more and more amazed at how God speaks to me directly about my health and wellness. In Luke 11:34, the Bible calls the eye the "lamp of the body." Meaning, it is imperative that we are looking at the right things if we want to find success in weight loss. Realizing our own triggers and temptations is a powerful tool.
Think about this. An alcoholic does not hang out in a liquor store or keep beer in the fridge when they're trying to refrain from drinking. So why do we keep Doritos and M'&M's hanging around in our pantry? And Rocky Road ice cream in our freezer? Knowing that when the carton comes out, the guilt sets in.
What are the things that cause you to stumble on your journey? Where are they? In your home, workspace, on television? You may not be able to control all the circumstances around you today, but you can control what comes into your home, car and personal workspace. Make sure what you are viewing is healthy. Ask God to help you remove foods, and other stressors that might cause you to overeat. Did you know a cluttered workspace can send you to the vending machine too? Take a few minutes to talk to God about the things that you view everyday. Ask Him to help remove food and other temptations that might cause you to get distracted and off track.
The Bible provides this powerful reminder; "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened for you."
Ask, seek, and knock, knowing the God has promised to give, guide and open the doors that will lead you to success.
Let's Pray.
Dear God,
God, I pray that beginning today, my lamp (my eye) begins to shine brighter as I seek to look at things that only bring health and peace into my life. I want what I see to promote health and wellness. Help me to clean up my environment and remove the things that cause me to stumble. I want my entire being filled with your light. Thank You for your unending mercy, grace and guidance. I give You praise today.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen

What You See Is What You Eat
If what you see is what you eat, make sure to have the following in plain sight on a regular basis to promote healthy eating and weight loss!
Fruit Basket: ALWAYS have a basket or bowl of fruit on your kitchen counter. This will help to train your mind when you walk into the kitchen to grab the apple and not the chips.
Cut up veggies and dip: I love to have baby carrots, broccoli and other fresh veggies already cut up in the fridge. That's what I want "staring me in the face" when I open up the door. Not cake or pie!
Portioned out snacks in the pantry: Individual serving sizes, or healthy snacks ready to eat. Remember, most of us are impulsive eaters, and crazy busy too. So we need "grab-n-go!"
Water bottles: Whether you buy bottled water or refill your own, just have it ready to go. Keep in the car and at the office, but always have water ready for hydration and to curb appetite. Studies indicate that at the first sign of wanting to snack, we should drink 8-10 oz of water instead. And the urge to eat will likely dissapate; at least temporarily!
