A New Kind of War
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh."
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
I once watched a documentary about the life-changing events that took place on 9/11/01. It captured a quote on audio that answered the question the entire world was asking that day. "What is this? What is going on?"
A somber voice can be heard as the catastrophic events unfold,
"This is a new kind of war. That's what this is."
This was a wake-up call for America and the world. A day that none of us will ever forget and a day that we honor those who heroically fought to save lives and lost their own.
But the statement about war should be a revelation for us all.
We too, are fighting new kinds of wars every day. Satan is on the attack stronger than ever in our churches, communities and homes. Not to mention his seemingly unending attacks on us individually; spiritually, mentally and physically. He is viciously going after our children and seeking to cause division among the greatest and most important family we have; our church family.
This is a new kind of war in many ways. Yet for centuries the Bible has taught us that the battles we face are against evil forces and not flesh and blood. Therefore our warfare must come from the only One strong enough to overcome the darkness. The Bibles says,
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:4, 5
The only way to win against the evil of this world is to test everything against the Word of God and seek to obey what it says.
Realizing that the sin in our lives always starts in our minds can help us defeat the darkness of this world. I encourage you as you go into this day to pray the above scripture. Ask God to take every thought that you have and bring it into the obedience of His Word.
Thoughts about your eating: "If I eat this, am I being obedient to Christ?"
Thoughts about your words: "If I say this, am I being obedient to Christ?"
Thoughts about where you go: "If I go there, am I being obedient to Christ?"
Thoughts about your actions: "If I do this, am I being obedient to Christ?"
Today is a day we remember those who bravely fought evil on the day that changed America. Let's choose to honor them by embracing the truth of God's Word and boldly fighting our battles with new weapons.
Let's tear down strongholds with the Word of God.
Let's break chains with praise to the Almighty God.
And let's lay aside every barrier giving glory to the Maker of heaven and earth.
This may be new kind of war.
But it's also a war that has already been won!
Let's Pray.
Dear God,
Today, I honor those who bravely fought and lost their lives on 9/11. I pray for the family members they left behind. Lord help us to never forget that day. But more importantly help us to honor America by uniting in our fight against evil.
Help me to fight all my battles today with the Sword of the Spirit. Help me to bring my thoughts into captivity and obedience to Your word. I know that sin starts in my heart. God, take out my stony heart and give me a new heart, one that seeks to be forever in Your presence. I give You all the glory.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen
